The type of lighting was used in homes from about 1500 BC to about 600 BC. This lamp was made to be used with vegetable oils for fuel. To recreate how King David would have used it, use olive oil for fuel. The lamps are meant carried in the palm of your hand. These biblical lamps have been found in in archeological ruins of synagogues, homes and even tombs.
Each lamp was handmade in Israel. Approximate size is 4.50 by 4 inches. 2 wicks are included with the purchase but any unbleached cotton fiber may be used.
These lamps are as good today for lighting as they were 2000 years ago. We here at Osmun Gifts use them as lighting during power outages.
An optional acrylic stand for this lamp is now available for purchase. .
