Byzantine lamps all share a particular shape and were used by early Christians and others in the Holy Land. This lamp is an example of such a Byzantine lamp. Different potters in different villages had their own unique molds and clays differed in color from area to area. Sometimes, the potter also added color to the clay to give it a different shade. This is an actual reproduction of such an ancient lamp excavated from the Holy Land. The fuel for these lamps would have been olive oil 2000 years ago. It can be used today just as then, with a few ounces of olive oil.
These Bible lamps were imported from Israel and this is an exact reproduction of an archaic lamp. Approximate size is 3.50 by 2.50 by 1 inch.
2 wicks are included with the purchase but any unbleached cotton fiber may be used. The lamp burns for a few hours with each filling.
These Dark Byzantine Clay Bible lamps may be used in Sunday School, Bible School, or Bible Study or religious ceremonies where you would like to recreate the lighting used by the early Christians.
A clear acrylic stand is available also so that the biblical lamp can be displayed.
