This Herodian bible lamp is imported directly from Israel by Osmun Gifts. This lamp is a little larger than the other Herodian lamp that we sell being almost 4 1/2 inches long to end of spout and 3 1/2 inches in diameter. The size of these ancient lamps varied slightly and were dependent upon the potter in Bible times as well as now. This lamp was in use from about 50BC through the time of Christ. It is wheel made with the spout added later.  Olive oil or another vegetable oil is recommended for the fuel. 

The color of the lamp is dependent upon the clay used. The lamps may vary from a beige color to a dark red.

This  biblical lamp has a coating on the interior that makes the lamp non-porous. This is not seen on the exterior of the lamp. While this lamp is not historical accurate as coatings were not present during the time of Jesus, this lamp works well in the modern day setting. You do not have to worry about the oil leeching through to the outside. The lamp will not absorb the oil.

2 wicks are included with the purchase of the clay lamp but any unbleached cotton fiber may be used. These are not miniature lamps but are the actual size.
