The fish symbol also known as ichthus has been associated with Christainity for almost 2000 years. The fish was a secret sign identifying Christians. Some would place the symbol above the door of a meeting place for early Christians. Early Christians were often persecuted so had to meet in secret. The word fish in ancient Greek, is an acrostic for the words Jesus Christ, son of God, Savior, or ichtus.
