The ladder rosary is unique in that the beads are strung together by a double metal chain rather than having the beads centered on one chain.  It resembles a ladder. 

Some think that the Ladder Rosary originated in Mexico.  Whether the origin was a vision of St.Dominick on which which he saw souls climbing to heaven on a Rosary or if it was a vision of St. Francis De Sales who saw 2 ladders to Heaven, it is a beautiful gift for anyone who prays the Rosary.  The St. Francis legend has 2 different ladders,  one very steep leading to Jesus and one easier to climb leading to Mary.  Jesus told St. Francis to "Tell your sons to come by the other ladders."  This is taken to mean that the easiest way to Jesus is through Mary. 

Each Rosary was made in Italy and is shipped in a velveteen box along with a card describing the story of the Ladder Rosary.
