This is a classic example of a Mary and Child Greek icon.  The Virgin Mary dressed in red which represents the passion lovingly cradles the Christ Child close to her.  The frame is an ornate silver plated wood.  Icons are traditionally not hung but are placed on a shelf on the right side of a room from the door as your enter. 

The icon is surrounded by silver plate design and is mounted onto a black wooden frame.   The size is 3 1/2 inches by 4 inches by 1/2 inch thick.
