Saint Christopher is portrayed  here crossing a river with a child on his back.  Legend has it that Christopher assisted travellers cross a river safely.  One day, a small child asked to be carried across.  The child became heavier and heavier until Christopher so much so that Christopher barely made it across the river.   It was then that the Christ child revealed himself to Christopher and told him that he had carried the weight of the world on his shoulders.
